Scariest Vampires Evah ... You Vote!

What Vampire Produces The Biggest Emotional Reaction In You As "The Baddest" of Bad?

OPTION 1: Dwight Renfield (Stephen King's "Night Flier)

OPTION 2: Kurt Barlowe (Stephen King's Salem's Lot)

OPTION 3: Plague-carrying vampires as in Nosferatu

OPTION 4: Radu from Subspecies (Bloodstorm)

OPTION 5: Jared Nomac (Blade II)

OPTION 6: Mark Metcalf (of Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

OPTION 7: 30 Days of Night Vampires

  1. Option 7 was pretty grim, though 5 and 3 were especially scary in their own ways too. Shah. X

  2. Shah ~ Option 7 "30 Days of Night" was the stuff nightmares are made of. That's for sure. LOL.

  3. My vote is for Option 2, Kurt Barlowe. They took the Nosferatu look and made it scarier. Plus it's one of the rare times that a filmed adaptation improved on an aspect of the book... I _love_ King's "Salem's Lot." But changing Barlowe to look like this was a masterstroke.

  4. I'll go with Nosferatu. The others make me say 'ew', than that moment of disgust fades. Schreck's portrayal of an undead being remains 'creepy' and still sends shivers up my spine. From the first time I saw it over 15 years ago in a class on silent film in college until today.

  5. Derek ~ I would agree with your assessment of vampire #2. (He does look very much like Nosferatu and Stephen King is a genius).

  6. Heather ~ I'm utterly with you and really value the incredible message conveyed by the classics. Vampires with stinky breath are just the coolest. They're very frightening. :-)

  7. OMG - I've never seen any of those vamps and they are all horrendous! Not sure I'll sleep without nightmares now - lol

  8. That Renfield (#1) is one of the funniest vamps I've ever seen. I want to steal the picture to use as my avatar for EVERYTHING!

  9. Faerotic Me ~ I'm heading over to RTF. Thanks for the follow. ~ Tami

  10. Gwen ~ I find it amazing that nobody has chosen Jared Nomac (Blade II) as the most frightening. Maybe it's because he reminds me of some dude who wanted to kiss me on a first date or something ... LOOK AT THAT MOUTH! LOL.

  11. Those are some scary pictures! Interesting blog you have here! Just started following. Have you read The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova? I have heard great things about it. It's somewhat based on Bram Stoker's Dracula.

  12. btw way, option one creeps me out the most. He is one ugly vamp

  13. Lucy ~ Regarding your being freaked out by Dwight Renfield, LOL. That vampire pretty much sticks to the old fashioned beliefs about such creatures spreading the plague. The vampires of old were certainly nobody you'd want to date. They wreaked and their rotting flesh might be seen falling from their bodies. I love how Stephen King stayed true to the historical representation of vampire.
